An ancient dying technique that UNESCO recently designated as a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity,” Indonesian batik patterns have been central to Javanese rituals. One in particular, a royal’s batik was perennially thrown into a volcano. But we just happened to find this gem on the streets of Batavia (Jakarta).
